2018-2019 KRIME CATALOG

TO MARS, WITH LOVE

It’s the year 2518. Mars is fully habitable and both humans as well as robots play an integral part in the society. It’s been over 500 years since the first African-Americans traveled into space. In commemoration, a party is being held at The Red House, home of the Martian President. Despite meteorological predictions of an aurora, prominent officials and citizens of both Mars and Earth traveled to be in attendance. The Red House Dinner just finished. The musical vibes fill the room with a psychedelic trance. Robots, Half-Robots, Martians, and Earthlings dance without a care in the universe. All is well… until someone is found dead on the planetarium floor.

THE CIPHER

It’s always live at the Diasporan Cafe. Saturday nights are called

“The Cipher” and DALLAS, the host, is a real crowd pleaser. The vibes of

neo-soul, reggae, poetry, and the lyricism of hip hop always draws a large crowd. The Diasporan Cafe is known for its eclectic menu with emphasis on soul and vegetarian cuisine. As veteran and amateur performers approach the mic, the energy is high and the house band is jamming. Students from the local university fill the room as waiters bustle in between them. While the band takes a break, Dallas heads to the kitchen… only to find someone stabbed to death on the floor.

KARNIVAL KILLA

It’s Carnival! Masquerade camp parties and soca fetes thump throughout the land. The biggest and most popular “mas camp” is called IMPACT. They produce unique and beautiful costumes that sell out every year. This year, the “mas camp” is holding a jouvert party at Club Bacchanal to distribute their “Going Green” costumes. DJ BACCHANAL, the nightclub’s resident disc jock spins hit after hit. Revelers jump up and dance amidst the musical vibes. Rags. Flags. Drinks. Everyone’s having a good time. The song skips. A scream is heard amidst the crowd — someone’s found dead near the DJ booth.

CASINO BLACK

It’s 1930. Prohibition is in full swing but that doesn’t stop Casino Black from being the hippest spot for African-Americans in Harlem. From gambling and girls to music and moonshine, we got it all. Although economic hardships are rising throughout the country, MADAM JANE, the owner of the speakeasy has seen an influx of new patrons from the South. She’s also been getting a lot of business since SALLY ANNE JACKSON, a new Blues singer from Virginia, moved to town. Musicians, bootleggers, gangsters, and any person seeking a distraction from the Great Depression is here tonight. It’s time to gamble! It’s time to party! The night was getting lively… until someone suspiciously dies.

THE KAYA KILLA

It’s been five (5) years since Amendment 64 passed in Colorado. In commemoration of the legalization of cannabis, independent groups host different “hemp-based” events throughout the state. ROOTZ, lead singer of The Levities, a popular reggae band, hosts an event called “The Upper Room.” MAMA WASIN, elder within the local Rastafarian community, BROTHER JAMAL, a pan-African activist, DR. ABDUL, a Muslim community advisor, IRIE BUDS, a major cannabis distributor as well as members of various local music and cultural groups gather for food, reggae, and “reasoning.” The vibrations continue to rise until a killer crashes the “high.”

CONGO NIGHTS

The Alumni Association of Delany University is hosting the 10th Annual Black Heritage Celebration Dinner at the Omega Omicron Nu Sorority, Inc. house. As always, the party has an African-theme and this year’s title is, “Congo Nights.” This year’s dinner is important as a new Africana Studies Department has been proposed to the university. While the dinner has attracted notable Alumni from across the country, advocates and opponents of the new department are in attendance. Everything from the music to the food represents a fusion of African culture. An impromptu step show and “stroll off” breaks out. All is fun and games… until a dead body is discovered on the premises.
